My Climate Journey, lol
A fer-de-lance is a highly venomous pit viper in Central America. It isn't relevant to this post at all. |
The title comes from a podcast of the same name by Jason Jacobs that I referenced in my earlier post. I continue to struggle to think of titles of these kinds of posts and really they are about my journey engaging with climate change, so it is a good title. I won't use it regularly though since the name is already taken by Jason.
This will be a short post as I only have a few minutes before getting started on work, but I have made a few moves towards focusing more on climate change. I have been interested in doing a project using an Arduino or Raspberry Pi (small computers for do-it-yourself hardware projects) to send data to google cloud.
As I have been reading about applying machine learning to climate change in this paper one of the applications is using pictures of clouds with computer vision to provide more advanced predictions of decreases in solar panel output. I thought I could make my own DIY version of such a predictor. It likely won't work super well but integrating all the pieces of the technology together should be a fun exercise.
I think I will also start working on writing an article about using machine learning to address climate change. Over the last 11 months, I have been really focused on beefing up my technical skills, and I now feel like those abilities are at a point where I can make room for some of my other interests, which is a good feeling.
That is all for now. More to come on the solar project and the article soon. Or, maybe not so soon, if I end up shelving these interests for another few weeks. It's MY journey after all, and I'll do it at my own pace, dagnabbit.
